I haven't tried terminus yet, it won't run on my computer.

@keksninja This looks like a bad written image, try re-flashing the SD card proper with Etcher.

Not really, I’ve already rewired from the power input to the switch board, and modified the base a bit.

I tried doing the JSTEST, it detected it alright. But it still does not detect the buttons. It says 13 buttons detected but has four nulls in the end if the list which i think represent the nonfunctional buttons. This sounds like you are not booting into a clean image from this site? How did you write the image? What is the name of the image?

the joystick and buttons are all connected to the circuit board and then into the pie via the Ian connection

I found the issue was with my USB to SD adapter. The image did contain partitions and windows detected a new USB storage device, halting the write operation. I had no issue when writing to SD on my laptop using a standard SD slot. Image is clean, well configured right out of the gate.

@chuckyp most adapters have a headphone jack on them for audio which is far better quality than the jack on the pi.
